Convert Tangerine statements to Excel or CSV
Tangerine's Download Transactions option on tangerine.ca exports recent activity as CSV or QFX, which is enough for a quick look. When you need full monthly statements, download the PDF eStatement instead; BankConv converts it to Excel, CSV or Google Sheets with the amount and balance of every transaction.

Do you need to convert at all?
Tangerine lets you download transactions from tangerine.ca in Excel CSV, Quicken (QFX) and Microsoft Money formats, using the Download Transactions button on the Transactions page.
Only on tangerine.ca, not in the mobile app, and it gives a transaction list rather than the statement with its opening and closing balances. Statements are PDF, kept for 7 years.

What to know about Tangerine PDFs
- The CSV and the statement differ
- The Download Transactions CSV has its own column layout and no opening or closing balance. If an accountant or lender wants statements, or you need a balance on every row, convert the PDF instead.
- One amount column
- The statement usually shows a single amount per transaction, with money out shown as negative, plus a running balance. Check the signs before you import, because some software expects money out as positive in a separate column.
- Interest and transfer lines
- Savings and chequing statements include interest paid and transfers between your own Tangerine accounts. If you import several Tangerine accounts, exclude the internal transfers so they aren't counted twice.
CSV download or PDF statement
Tangerine is one of the few Canadian banks with an easy CSV download. Use it for recent bookkeeping, and use the PDF when you need the statement itself.
| You need | Use |
|---|---|
| Recent transactions for a spreadsheet or Quicken | Download Transactions (CSV or QFX) on tangerine.ca |
| A statement with opening and closing balances | PDF eStatement, converted in BankConv |
| Months from a PDF someone sent you | PDF eStatement, converted in BankConv |
To convert the PDFs, upload up to 10 to BankConv, check the rows, then export Excel or CSV. Your first 5 pages convert free.
What to check before you import
The statement shows the opening and closing balance for the period. Use them to check the result yourself.
- Balance: opening balance + the sum of Amount should equal the closing balance. With an opening balance of 5,230.00, the sample rows above end at 4,451.92.
- Signs: confirm money out is negative throughout.
- Transfers: remove transfers between your own Tangerine accounts if you import more than one.
To bring the rows into QuickBooks, see importing into QuickBooks. Other Canadian banks are on the Canadian banks page.
