Convert CIBC statements to Excel or CSV

In CIBC Online Banking, the Download Transactions option only reaches recent activity; older months sit as PDF eStatements under My Documents. Convert those PDFs with BankConv and you have withdrawals, deposits and balance in separate columns, ready for Excel, CSV or Google Sheets.

Do you need to convert at all?

Recent transactions only, and the formats offered can vary. Past statement periods are PDF eStatements under My Documents.

What to know about CIBC PDFs

Withdrawals and deposits in two columns
CIBC chequing statements usually show money out under Withdrawals ($) and money in under Deposits ($), both as positive numbers. Keep both columns, or build one signed amount before you import.
Dates without a year
Transaction dates usually print as short month and day (for example Sep 4). The year comes from the statement period, so check rows on a December–January statement.
Balance lines are not transactions
The table usually opens with an Opening balance line and ends with a Closing balance line. Leave them out when you sum the Withdrawals and Deposits columns.

Converting CIBC eStatements

CIBC eStatements are usually text-based PDFs with one transaction table per account, and each line becomes a row.

  1. Download the PDFs from My Documents in CIBC Online Banking.
  2. Upload them to BankConv, up to 10 at a time.
  3. Check the rows, then export Excel or CSV.

Use the PDF route for months that Download Transactions no longer covers, or when an accountant or lender asks for full statements with opening and closing balances.

What to check before you import

The account summary at the top of the statement shows the opening balance, total withdrawals, total deposits and the closing balance. Use it to check the result yourself.

  • Totals: sum Withdrawals and Deposits, leaving out the balance lines, and compare with the summary.
  • Balance: opening balance + deposits − withdrawals should equal the closing balance. With an opening balance of 1,912.40, the sample rows above end at 3,468.46.
  • Year: add the year to each date from the statement period.

To bring the rows into QuickBooks, see importing into QuickBooks. For other Canadian banks, see the Canadian banks page.
