Convert Bankwest statements to Excel or CSV

Bankwest's Online Banking export suits recent transactions for software such as Xero or MYOB, but it leaves out the opening and closing balances. For past periods, download the PDF eStatements from Statements in the Bankwest App (usually under More) and convert them with BankConv into Excel or CSV. A transaction summary PDF for a custom range converts too.

Do you need to convert at all?

Bankwest Online Banking usually lets you export transaction history, or the results of a transaction search, in formats for accounting and money software such as Xero, MYOB and Quicken.

The export covers transactions only, without the statement's opening and closing balances. Past statements are PDF eStatements.

What to know about Bankwest PDFs

Transaction summary versus eStatement
Besides the regular eStatement, the app usually lets you create a transaction summary PDF for a custom range before the statement is issued. Both convert, but only the eStatement is the official statement a lender may ask for.
Debit and credit columns, no signs
Money out sits under Debit and money in under Credit, both as positive numbers. Keep the two columns, or make one signed Amount column (credit minus debit) for software that needs it.
Different layout from CommBank
Bankwest is part of the Commonwealth Bank group, but its statements usually don't use CommBank's CR and DR balance suffixes. Don't reuse a CommBank spreadsheet formula on Bankwest rows without checking.

How to get Bankwest statements into Excel

Bankwest’s export suits recent activity. For past periods, the eStatements are the source.

  1. Recent activity: in Online Banking, open the transaction history or run a transaction search, then look for the export option and pick the format your software uses.
  2. Past statements: download the PDF eStatements, upload them to BankConv and export Excel or CSV.

Use the eStatements when an accountant or lender asks for full statements. They carry the opening and closing balances.

What to check after converting

Bankwest eStatements are usually text-based PDFs, but run these checks before you import:

  • Opening balance: leave the opening balance line out of your totals.
  • Totals: compare total debits and credits with the statement summary.
  • Closing balance: the last balance should match the PDF.
  • Dates: set your spreadsheet to DD/MM/YYYY before you import, or 03/04 may become 4 March.
