BankConv: a DocuClipper alternative

DocuClipper is a broad document platform: it handles bank statements, invoices and receipts, and exports QBO, OFX and QFX files that sync with QuickBooks, Xero and Sage. BankConv does one job, converting PDF bank statements to Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, OFX, QFX or QBO, at a lower price per page and with a pay-per-document option. Choose DocuClipper for invoices, receipts and direct accounting sync; choose BankConv for statement files at volume or for a single statement.

Which one should you choose?

Pick DocuClipper if you want invoices and receipts too, or direct sync into your accounting software. Pick BankConv if you want statement files, spreadsheets or QBO, OFX and QFX, at a low cost per page.

  • You use QuickBooks Desktop and need QBO files: either. Both produce QBO.
  • You want statements, invoices and receipts in one tool: DocuClipper.
  • You want direct sync to Xero or Sage: DocuClipper.
  • You reconcile or review in Excel or Google Sheets: BankConv. 500 pages costs $29 a month.
  • You need one statement converted today: BankConv, from $2.99 with no trial or subscription.

Where DocuClipper is stronger

DocuClipper covers more of the accounting workflow than BankConv does. It exports QBO, QFX, OFX and QIF files, so transactions import into QuickBooks or Quicken with duplicate protection built into the format. It syncs with QuickBooks, Xero and Sage. It also reads invoices and receipts, categorizes transactions, and its Business plan adds cash-flow and fraud analysis. Every plan includes unlimited users.

If those features save your team a step on every client, the higher price per page can pay for itself.

Where BankConv is different

BankConv converts PDF bank statements and nothing else, and its pricing reflects that.

Files and outputs are deleted after 24 hours, and BankConv never connects to a bank account. See security for the details.

Getting BankConv output into accounting software

Most accounting tools accept CSV or OFX, so you rarely need anything else.

  1. Convert the statement and download CSV or OFX.
  2. In QuickBooks Online, use Upload from file. The QuickBooks guide covers the column mapping for CSV; OFX needs none.
  3. For Quicken, download QFX.
A BankConv CSV maps to Date, Description and Amount in QuickBooks Online.

Before importing, check that the row count and closing balance match the statement. Compare costs for your real volume on the pricing page.

Is BankConv cheaper than DocuClipper?

Per page, yes. BankConv's $29 Starter plan includes 500 pages a month, while DocuClipper's $29 Starter includes 60. DocuClipper's price includes direct accounting syncs, extra document types and analysis features that BankConv does not offer.

Can BankConv export QBO or OFX like DocuClipper?

OFX and QFX, yes; QBO, no. QuickBooks Online accepts BankConv's CSV or OFX through Upload from file. If you need QBO for QuickBooks Desktop, DocuClipper is the better fit.

Does DocuClipper have a free plan?

Which is better for an accounting firm?

Firms that want statements, invoices and receipts to flow straight into QuickBooks, Xero or Sage will get more from DocuClipper. Firms that review statements in Excel, or that need high page volume at a low price, will find BankConv cheaper.
